Despite the club night following straight after the Grand Prix there was a good turn-out of 10 players. The club welcomed back Martin Phee after a gap of three years. Martin was one of the original members from 1973. It was Martin’s first meeting with Dave Houston since that time! Houston moved three places up the table after a draw with Colin Day and a win over Colin Berry. Dave Gladman had 2-1 wins against Berry and Baver Bari. Gladman has now had seven successive league victories. He only managed three points in his first ten games.

Results 4/3/13

On the last club night before the Grand Prix only five players attended – a disappointingly low turn-out. Only two competitive matches were played. Baver Bari gained his second point of the campaign drawing with Zoltan Hegedus. In the first round of the Association Cup Barry Corr edged out Hegedus. Corr will now play Colin Berry or Baver Bari.

Only 3 league matches were played. Both Burns and Butler won their league matches and so it is as you were at the top of the league. Burns had a comfortable 6-0 win over Baver Bari while Butler struggled to break down a Zoltan Hegedus defence but winning 1-0. This was also the scoreline in Barry Corr’s win over Baver Bari. In the Glasgow Cup Butler ensured qualification with a 2-0 victory over Dave Gladman, both goals coming in the last minute of the first half.

The club welcomed for the first time Kenny Jones. Kenny had travelled up from Kilmarnock and after a gap of over 20 years is keen to get back playing. Also present was Andrea Andreoni, looking for some practice before the Grand Prix. We hope that Andrea will be back in the league next season.

The temperature outside had fallen below zero but inside, in the match between Colin Day and Baver Bari, lots of heat was being generated. 2-1 down, Bari thought he had equalised but Day claimed offside. Day had flicked out a defender to leave an attacker in an offside position as Bari moved the ball into the shooting area. Was the ball moving when Bari flicked through? Did Bari take two flicks? Day protested vehemently to the referee and after a heated discussion the goal was disallowed. Also in the league Tom Burns faced Dave Butler in a game which Burns had to win if he was to retain any slim hope of taking the title. Burns did take the lead but Butler equalised on the stroke of half-time. There were no further goals. Butler, therefore, looks set to retain his title. Burns did go back to the top of the league after a 4-0 defeat of Colin Berry later in the evening but Butler lies two points behind with 3 games in hand.

In the Glasgow Cup Barry Corr edged out Zoltan Hegedus 1-0. Corr now needs only a draw against Dave Houston to reach the semi-finals. Despite beating Colin Berry 3-2, Dave Gladman is unlikely to qualify.

It was another cold night in Glasgow but this time turnout was good. Willie Fleming moved to the top of the league after scoring a last minute winner against Ronnie McKenzie. Fleming, however, has played way more games than anyone else. Surprise of the night was Barry Corr holding Dave Butler to a 1-1 draw. In fact it was Butler who secured the draw with a final minute leveller, thus preventing three consecutive defeats this being his first game since Cairneyhill. Tom Burns showed Baver Bari absolutely no mercy in a crushing 11-1 victory. Dave Houston improved his chances of Glasgow Cup qualification by defeating Colin Day 2-0. Houston now faces a crucial deciding match against Barry Corr.

Only five players braved the biting wind on this cold Glasgow night. Two league matches were played. After a 3-1 win over Baver Bari, Willie Fleming joined Dave Butler and Tom Burns as joint leaders on the 34 point mark. Fleming, however, has played 3 games more than Burns and 6 more than Butler! Colin Day also had a victory over Bari. Bari dominated the match and had numerous shots on the Day goal but lost 3-0! There was a surprise visit by Andrea Andreoni who was looking for match practice having entered the Grand Prix in March.

Dave Butler played two matches in the Glasgow Cup which allowed Tom Burns to go back to the top of the league with his 4-1 victory over Barry Corr. Burns and Butler both have 34 points and the same goal difference but Burns leads by virtue of having scored more goals. Also in the league Dave Gladman recorded his fifth successive victory with a 3-0 win over Baver Bari. Colin Berry moved up 2 places after beating Zoltan Hegedus. Butler won his two Glasgow Cup matches and looks likely to qualify along with Willie Fleming. In the other group Corr beat Colin Day so it looks likely there will be a close fight for second place after Burns.

Two victories saw Dave Butler go three points clear at the top of the league and with two games in hand. Since starting to use ‘profibases’ this season, Dave’s form in the league has been remarkable, dropping only two points and conceding only one goal. He has performed well also at national events. Could this season’s Scottish Champion be from Glasgow? In the Glasgow Cup Tom Burns recorded his fourth group win, scoring 18 goals in all. In a friendly match Dave Houston and Willie Fleming fought out a 0-0 draw. Fleming can count himself a bit hard done to, if also a little unobservant, since Houston played the whole match with 12 men!

There was a good turnout with ten players attending. Butler closed the gap on Burns and is now only three points behind with four games in hand. Fleming lost ground with a surprise defeat to Houston. Baver Bari had his first competitive match drawing with Colin Berry. Meanwhile, in the Glasgow Cup, Burns and Fleming look certain to qualify from their groups.
