Results 4/3/13

On the last club night before the Grand Prix only five players attended – a disappointingly low turn-out. Only two competitive matches were played. Baver Bari gained his second point of the campaign drawing with Zoltan Hegedus. In the first round of the Association Cup Barry Corr edged out Hegedus. Corr will now play Colin Berry or Baver Bari.

Results 25/2/13

Only 3 league matches were played. Both Burns and Butler won their league matches and so it is as you were at the top of the league. Burns had a comfortable 6-0 win over Baver Bari while Butler struggled to break down a Zoltan Hegedus defence but winning 1-0. This was also the scoreline in Barry Corr’s win over Baver Bari. In the Glasgow Cup Butler ensured qualification with a 2-0 victory over Dave Gladman, both goals coming in the last minute of the first half.

The club welcomed for the first time Kenny Jones. Kenny had travelled up from Kilmarnock and after a gap of over 20 years is keen to get back playing. Also present was Andrea Andreoni, looking for some practice before the Grand Prix. We hope that Andrea will be back in the league next season.

Results 18/2/13

The temperature outside had fallen below zero but inside, in the match between Colin Day and Baver Bari, lots of heat was being generated. 2-1 down, Bari thought he had equalised but Day claimed offside. Day had flicked out a defender to leave an attacker in an offside position as Bari moved the ball into the shooting area. Was the ball moving when Bari flicked through? Did Bari take two flicks? Day protested vehemently to the referee and after a heated discussion the goal was disallowed. Also in the league Tom Burns faced Dave Butler in a game which Burns had to win if he was to retain any slim hope of taking the title. Burns did take the lead but Butler equalised on the stroke of half-time. There were no further goals. Butler, therefore, looks set to retain his title. Burns did go back to the top of the league after a 4-0 defeat of Colin Berry later in the evening but Butler lies two points behind with 3 games in hand.

In the Glasgow Cup Barry Corr edged out Zoltan Hegedus 1-0. Corr now needs only a draw against Dave Houston to reach the semi-finals. Despite beating Colin Berry 3-2, Dave Gladman is unlikely to qualify.

Association Cup draw made

The draw has been made for the first two rounds of this season’s Association Cup. In World Subbuteo this is one of the oldest trophies still being played for. Traditionally the final is played on the last club night of the season. There are three first round ties. Corr should be favourite to win against Hegedus although only one goal separated them in their last meeting. Day has lost twice to Butler this season and has yet to score against him. Berry and Bari have played once in the league and neither player was able to score. In round two it is difficult to pick a winner between McKenzie and Houston and Burns always finds it difficult againt Gladman.

Round 1

Corr v Hegedus
Day v Butler
Berry v Bari

Round 2

Day/Butler v Fleming
McKenzie v Houston
Burns v Gladman

Results 11/2/13

It was another cold night in Glasgow but this time turnout was good. Willie Fleming moved to the top of the league after scoring a last minute winner against Ronnie McKenzie. Fleming, however, has played way more games than anyone else. Surprise of the night was Barry Corr holding Dave Butler to a 1-1 draw. In fact it was Butler who secured the draw with a final minute leveller, thus preventing three consecutive defeats this being his first game since Cairneyhill. Tom Burns showed Baver Bari absolutely no mercy in a crushing 11-1 victory. Dave Houston improved his chances of Glasgow Cup qualification by defeating Colin Day 2-0. Houston now faces a crucial deciding match against Barry Corr.
